Celebrating his 10 year anniversary, Robert Geller left nothing to the imagination bringing to life the never ending struggle between love and war. Designs of camouflage, dark colour schemes and neoprene ski masks illustrated the look of a rebel. Geller went onto state “It’s about the need to protest, the need to protect but also have some hope.”
At Common, we decided to highlight Mr.Geller. In an interview 10 years ago, Robert talks about what sparked his interest in fashion. Born in Germany, Robert left his home to attend in Rhode Island School of Design, New York. Graduating in 2001 with a degree in fashion, Robert went onto join a trainee ship at Marc Jacobs. After his short time with Marc Jacobs, he went to aid in revamping Alexandre Plokhov New based brand “Cloak”. Robert and Alexandre’s work was well received as they won the Ecco Domani Fashion Foundation award in 2003, followed by a Vogue / CFDA grant in 2004.
Following his time at Cloak, he would later release his namesake line in 2007 for Fall / Winter. Ten years later Robert has accomplished to create a second line (Robert Geller Seconds), win various awards (Best New Menswear Designer in America, CFDA Swarovski Award for Menswear) and has been featured in major magazines across the globe.
We are excited and looking forward to his FW17 collection. Congratulations on your 10th anniversary Robert Geller!
